THINGS TO SAY AT A JOB INTERVIEW THAT WILL GET YOU HIRED
You may be saying to yourself, I don’t know what to expect from the interview. This is a feeling that the majority of people out there interviewing for jobs struggle with. The feeling of uncertainty is quite normal simply because we can’t predict what the interviewer may ask us. However, a distinction should be made, which is that you can’t control what the person interviewing you may ask you, but you can do your best to make sure that you are prepared.
There are three things that you need to be able to speak about during a job interview which are critical. If you can speak about yourself regarding these areas, you will increase your chances of getting hired. Here are the three things that you have to be prepared to speak about during a job interview. Let’s get started.
1. Describe a skill you have
It is important that we make something clear from the start regarding this first point. Regarding the skill that you will be describing, it must be related to the job that you have applied for. Avoid preparing to talk about a skill that is not applicable to the organization of your interest.
It is important to highlight the fact that the skill you possess will help enhance the output of the position you are applying for. You should also try to be specific as possible, that way the employer can understand how the company can utilize this particular skill you poses. The best way to go about preparing for an answer like this is to first identify what the skill is, then prepare short relevant stories about how you used the skill in the past.
The advantage here is that, when you begin to speak you will speak with clarity and command of what you are talking about.
2. Describe a characteristic you posses
This question obliges that you speak about a soft skill that you have. Soft skills are things such as confidence, determination, leadership. Soft skills basically describe how you behave as an individual. It is important you are judicious when you decide what skills you want to highlight during the job interview. For instance, you can say speak about (your public speaking skills and how you communicate with others.
For instance, you can mention that you are assertive and persuasive in negotiation situations. Express that this soft skill comes in handy when working with other people who may be reserved and make decisions slowly. Explain how this skill can be beneficial to the organization when you work with groups of people.
3. Work experience from the past
Finally, you should be able to speak about your past work experiences from other employers you have worked for. A dynamic to understand that is at play during a job interview is fear. The person looking to hire you is also wrestling with the feelings of uncertainty because they are never really one hundred percent certain that you are really the real deal, (you will deliver on your promises). It is important to be aware of this and reassure them with your language and the description of this skill that you are in fact what you say are. Assure them that their investment in you will pay-off.
The experience that you highlight should be relatable to the job you are applying for. You can ill afford to speak about an experience that is off topic, you will risk losing the job. The employer wants to know what’s in it for them and how the company will benefit by bringing you on board for the long run. So, it paramount that you assure them that your past work experience is transferable to your new job. If you follow this three recommendations, you will increase the likelihood of getting hired.
