I’m sure some of you reading this article may be thinking to yourselves; “what does running have to do with business”? And you would be right to be asking yourself this question, but I am here to tell you that the activity of running is one of the best things any entrepreneurs out there can use to help them achieve a considerable amount of success in their professional lives.
I am going to share some of the benefits of running that I have discovered over the last ten years of my life. So here they are.
1. Running improves your stamina
One of the major benefits of being a runner is that I’m able to expend more energy during a workday without feeling lethargic and out of breath. For example, since the moment I started doing business in Rome, I have had to make countless trips around the city to meet clients and establish customer relationships. The grind of going to and for in a city big such as Rome can be physically taxing on the body, but since I am in a good shape, I never find myself feeling tired as a result of having bad physical conditioning.
My first tip is if you are not already a runner, you should try to start running as soon as possible. I recommend starting off with running at least two to three times a week to increase your endurance to handle hectic work days.
2. Improve the way you look
This is a topic that I will cover in depth in our new training course, “The Confident Presenter” that covers confidence and self-esteem. The real reason I started to run initially was for health reasons. I was obese at the time, and the only thing that made sense for me to do in the moment was to start running. The more I did it, the more weight I began losing. and as a result, the better I began to feel about myself.
I remember a number of years ago, after coming home from a long run and I looked at my reflection in the mirror. I was astonished with the progress I had made. I felt so good about myself and it gave me an extra pep in my step. This is the feeling that you should be experiencing every single day. It is important to make sure that you take care of yourself and do not neglect your health.
3. Develop mental toughness
This by far is the most rewarding aspect of being a runner. As I said before, I have been running for the last ten years of my life and what I discovered is that our bodies have limitations, but our minds don’t. Speaking from my experience, I will say that thirty percent of running comes from physical action, while the remaining seventy percent comes from sheer willpower.
If you can learn to use running as a way to push past your limitations, the rest of life becomes easy because you would have created so many different reference points for yourself. This I believe is one of the things that set good business people apart from great business people; mentality! You can do anything you put your mind to, give it a shot.
